PHN UnitPhonoscope design engineers have integrated multiple computer, medical, and telecommunications technologies into a single system that allows unprecedented functionality for practicing medicine or receiving medical care at a distance.

Videoconferencing

Phonoscope Unit from Doctor's ViewThe core of the system is high quality, two-way, interactive videoconferencing. This is accomplished using advanced Polycom codec equipment which transmits video over the Phonoscope fiber optic network. Customers at the Clinic are able to talk directly with the nurse or physician who appears on a large screen monitor and who is able to control Clinic cameras and computers remotely. These sophisticated conferencing cameras can be moved about and zoomed as necessary for the doctor to thoroughly examine someone. Video is diagnostic quality.

Hand Held Examination Camera

Hand Held Examination Camera

When there is a need for the physician to examine an area more closely than the videoconferencing camera allows, he/she will instruct the customer on placement of a simple-to-use handheld camera and then get a close up view of the affected area. For example, a sore or cut on the skin could be examined to insure proper healing.

Digital StethoscopeDigital Stethoscope

Just as in a physician’s office, the nurse will be able to listen to your heart and lungs with a high quality stethoscope. The difference here is that the customer will hold the stethoscope chest piece themselves as instructed by a physician who will be able to listen from miles away at the control center. The stethoscope from Telehealth Technologies provides optimized bell and diaphragm modes with superior low frequency response. This gives the practitioner a diagnostic device that is equal in quality to the steth in his/her office.

Vital Signs Measuring DevicesDigital Diagnostic Equipment

Several monitoring devices are used in the Clinic to collect routine data for the medical visit. These devices, although located in the Employee Clinic, transmit their measurements through a computer and across the network to the nurse in the control center. In the control center, the nurse can evaluate the vital sign readings and save them to the customers’ record for ongoing review at future clinic visits.

Diagnostic Devices

  • Digital Scales – Provides customers weight in pounds or kilograms
  • Blood Pressure Cuff – Provides systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings and heart rate
  • Pulse Oximeter – Provides pulse rate and percent blood oxygen saturation
  • Glucometer – Provides blood glucose monitoring for diabetics
  • EKG - Provides data concerning the rhythms of the heart

Employers who invest...

in worksite health promotion programs can see a return of $3-$6 for every dollar invested over a 2-5 year period. Documented savings are observed in medical costs, absenteeism, worker's comp claims, short-term disability and presenteeism (lower on-the-job efficiency due to employee health problems.)
